i do things differently nowadays.

dearest blog,
i've realized recently that i will soon need to call myself an artist. i've always felt awkward about this terminology and especially in the current day and age of the ever expanding world wide web. whenever asked what i did before, i would consider the response and end on the term of "artist in training." maybe this is silly, maybe not. writing statements of what i do and who i am, have done nothing but further the complexity of self declaration. i'll have to now release the past concept and accept the changes ahead which is often difficult but none the less better for myself. the cliche stepping stone just got skipped across the lakeside bank and is sinking quickly in the center, surrounded by ripples of change that will wash up on shore and reveal the next one awaiting to be grasped. i will be an artist. i am an artist. i am what i am.

self:
1. a person or thing to with respect to complete individuality: one's own self.
2. a person's nature, character, etc.
3. personal interest.

artist statement: i am joanna and i am an artist.

love, me

A Couple of Photos

breaking through newly primed walls.

So apparently I am now going to be blogging. What is to come is unknown and I'm awful with predictions and I hate assuming things, so we will just have to wait and see. I'm attempting to get life under control and enter the realm of making things happen for myself rather than coasting though comfortably in someone's sidecar that they've attached to the side of a vespa. I want to drive now. My life is art and art is life and so from here on in if you read this, you'll see my life and my art and most likely lots of random bits and pieces of things that catch my eye.

No pigeon hole for me. Yet I know what I love and what I love to do most. I am a painter and a photographer. These are the only two things that I know of myself which fall under one large umbrella. I am an artist. I am Joanna. Welcome to my world.

love, joanna
